Indeed we are influencing biomes across the planet before we understand them and are too concerned on utilizing the full range of the unkown biodiversity. We already know that this task of sampling, identifying and producing biological collections is an endless work. Instead of worry too much about an unique species or a complete list of species, organisms and biomes should be better explored by a funcional approach. In this way, conservation would be driven by the ecological role of target species, ecossystem services and resilience to human impacts.
