My Sisters were 9 yrs older then me and they remember the Mushroom cloud coming over our area in Pierce, ID. When I was a little girl I remember my Dad taking a Geiger Counter out in the yard and it would go crazy. Dad would then say we have alot of radiation in the ground. This was in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. My older sister and myself ate some snow ice cream and our mouths broke out in sores so bad we could not talk and was taken to the doctor in Lewiston, ID. The doctor had no idea what caused them. My Mother and middle Sister developed thyroid problems at a young age. I had a blood disease that the doctors could not diagnosis. I was bed fast for a year and spent 3 weeks in the hospital that was in 1956 and I was 4 years old. I had awful nose bleeds for years and was put on a new drug that came out called Penacillin. My Mother developed Lymphomia Cancer in her Stomach, around her neck and heart. She survived 2 years of Chemo treatments. In the little area of Pierce, ID I could name people after people that have died from Cancer of some kind.
The Kingman Arizona Downwinds Experiments occurred from 1952 through 1963, when Bombs were detonated in Nevada only at the times when the prevailing winds would bring the cloud of Radioactive Dust over Kingman. At these times the Kingman Schools would be notified in advance. Then the children would be released onto the playground to receive the radioactive dust in their eyelashes and hair and all over their clothing. The class of 1957 got their doses of cloud dust
while inhaling deeply, during their vigorous Outdoor P.E. Classes.
In more recent years there has been a Department of Defense, discussion of beginning another round of experiments. This they did begin, in May of 2019.
It’s a shame the Russians don’t pay up for the mischief they’ve caused, mischief that required the USA to develop and test these bombs. It’s not as if politicians and community groups have a motive to seek tax monies from the government to compensate for these claims. It’s perfectly clear that there were bomb tests. It’s perfectly clear that there are cancers. What’s wrong with people who don’t see the logic of compensating these helpless victims? What next? Government going to claim that vaccines don’t cause Ebola?
What about Hanford downwinders?
I’m a Hanford works downwinder–spent my early childhood in Richland, WA. The Hanford Community Health Project did a study of us which I understand did not reveal any significant excess illness. I’m 71 years old and in good health.
I am a Tularosa Basin downwinder. Despite the political implications cited, it is still a HUGE question as to what makes us different from the NTS downwinders. It’s the same question over and over that no one seems to be able to answer!
The main difference is that there were 105 open air detonations in Nevada, some very large and from 300-foot towers. Trinity was a single detonation.
“Unlike tests conducted at the Nevada Test Site, the Trinity “gadget” detonated only 100 feet from the ground. At this height, more organic material would’ve been swept into the explosion and returned to the earth as fallout. Another compounding factor was the relative inefficiency of the device. Of the 13 pounds of fissile material contained in the device, only about 2.6 pounds exploded; the rest was dispersed into the environment, where it remained radioactive.” – Info from the above article.
The month of July 1962 is a covered time-period for AZ, NV, UT Downwinders due to the detonation of a single shot at the NTS, which was supposed to be an underground test, but heaved up radioactive material into the atmosphere. https://youtu.be/gZbL_uKBQzY
One test is one too many.
