I know of one project that used sound to monitor the health of computer networks.
* Small ticks for each N packets of network traffic.
* Chirps for outgoing mail. Different chirp for incoming.
* Sounds ranging from high pitch for small disk writes to low pitched grumbles for large disk writes.
* A tiny chime every ime the time server broadcast the current network time.
The full pan0ply included water drops, frog croaks of various flavours, rushing streams, fish jumping, mosquitoes whining, many different bird calls.
Sysadmins could listen and the soundscape would change when something was wrong on the network.
