We can track Diabetes and the so called Opiate Epidemic back to this kind of corporate largess. Across the US Industry funded ‘advocates’ peddle pharmaceutical “Solutions” after misreported news stories, like gun violence. Companies like Phizer turned the lurid headline of gun death causalities into a marketing extravaganza. Device companies like Medtronic turned the opiate epidemic into a profitable marketing campaign. These corporations harvested patient data from social media, in order to create counter narratives, and promote their products. So called non profit religious hospitals here in the US used their charity status to avoid scrutiny as the provided medical devices, and drugs to the less fortunate while billing Medicare, Medicaid, and local indigent funds.
They allowed device manufacturer representatives to sell devices during surgeries. The avoided counting the adverse events by attributing the adverse events to opioid use disorder. They even threatened patients who showed up at the ER with these devices, often in agony or near death. These patients were blacklisted by local physicians, and low income clinics the pain and distress these patients experienced from faulty medical devices, was attributed to mental illness or opiate use disorder. The American Medical industry relies on the lack of regulation, data collection and corruption to keep the profits rolling in.
