For schools/hospitals with multiple doors and many cameras, SafeSchool would be a good choice. I checked their website (virtualeforce.com), they claim that they can detect the handguns made from 3-D printer. Their shooter tracking system seems very promising technology. However, security or dispatcher are still needed to activate the school lockdown.
Dale: First Disclaimer. I am a shareholder of Patriot One. Patriot One’s plan is to allow the integration of other technologies one being is to go in an automatic lock down of a given area. I was impressed with their progress and what the plan to do. Lots of info on this company online
Patriot One is a big step in the right direction. Whether a school or other building or institution, installing such a system is an excellent idea, but naturally there also needs to be a reliable security force to support it.
It is not a solution in itself, but certainly a key element in providing a shield for a facility. Several factors to consider as far as at what point the weapon is detected, and what type of restraint will prevent the subject from breaking free, or backing away and causing mayhem to the public outside the facility as they escape. Possibly a double-locked gate to trap them until they are secured by law enforcement or a security team.
Human violence to humans is not new. Archeological records show man was killing man for thousands of years. However the increase of violence in our schools and society in general is worth understanding. A growing opinion is what is different in our current society is the loss of civility and the belief that I get to get what ever I want at the expense of everyone else. Detection of guns is important in protecting people. However the real issue is the lack of civility in society and the willingness to accept all the data.
Social media, computer games and the rapid expansion of technology has dehumanized us. People think conversing on Facebook is talking and interacting. Facebook is not the same as looking someone in the eye and having a conversation. The US military and psychologists have repeatedly warned on the effect of realistic violent games on the mind. Games allow one to create their own reality without consequences of real life. Improvements manufacturing, agriculture, medicine, computers and about every other human activity, decease costs make it seem like when I want something and I get it without any work.
If man has killed man for thousands if not tens of thousands of years, not to recognize lack of civil behavior in school and society in general is a major part of gun violence the problem.
The Patriot One system can take a pic of the potential perp & send it immediately to whoever you like-definitely the location’s security who could forward it to police & possibly even the police themselves. They have partnered with March Systems & can track the offender from camera to camera. You do need someone with a weapon to reliably stop someone with a weapon of course-but imagine the police showing up & knowing exactly who it is, where he is, & what he’s carrying? This technology is amazing.
This would be of little value if no law-enforcement available. System must immediately effective to be effective at all.
Could be a tool, but not a solution.
